How It Works : Technology
Airdocs EFA is a client/server software package for Windows systems that provides remote employees
with accelerated access to their file shares, better file sharing through email attachments and
features useful for mobile users, such as offline file access. The software can be applied within an
existing VPN framework, but can also be run over a raw WAN such as the Internet because of its
secure nature.
Thanks to Airdocs EFA's low-bandwidth requirements, it is not necessary to upgrade your local
connectivity. The remote client software can effectively work with your local server over wide area
connections including GSM, GPRS, CDAM, UTMS, 56K dialup, ISDN, DSL, satellite phone.
Take a test drive and see for yourself.
Features
Server Software
The Airdocs EFA server software is installed on a computer attached your LAN, and runs in the background as a
Windows service. The computer needs to have Windows NT or better installed, and although a server machine is
recommended a workstation can also be used. The server machine must be part of the NT domain or Active Directory
tree to which you wish to provide access.

Client Software
The Airdocs EFA client software is installed on the laptops and workstations from which remote access is
performed. Although Windows 2000 or better is recommended, the client software will run on Windows 95 and
above, provided that a minimum of Internet Explorer 4.0 has been installed (which updates certain Windows
UI capabilities). The software has been designed in a way that ensures it is compatible with the
broadest possible range of computer configurations.
Client Deployment
The Airdocs EFA client software is packaged in an MSI file, and can be installed, reinstalled and
completely preconfigured for users using Microsoft IntelliMirror and other similar systems.
Network
It must be possible for the client software to create TCP/IP stream connections to the server software,
which should be running at a fixed IP address. However, the system has been designed to operate over any link from GSM (9.6Kbs) up, and therefore should be operable over your existing
remote working connectivity or WAN.

Architecture
Strong Security
Security is provided on two levels. The first level involves the client software establishing a secure
communications stream with the server software (whether Airdocs is being run within a VPN or not). The
Diffie-Hellman Secret Key Exchange system is used to securely establish a shared 1024 bit secret key, which
is then used to encrypt all communications using Blowfish. The second level of security involves
authentication - end users must authenticate using currently valid NT domain or Active Directory credentials, and
are thereafter assigned the file access privileges that have been assigned the corresponding account.

Reliable and Scalable
All Airdocs EFA software is built from optimized code that makes highly efficient use of CPU cycles and
main memory. This makes it possible to support up to a thousand users through a standard server machine.
The server software has also been developed using carrier-class, mission critical software engineering
practices. If you are interested in obtaining a clustering version of the server to achieve even
greater reliability through hardware redundancy, please contact sales.

High Performance
ARTR technology forms the foundation of the Airdocs EFA software. ARTR is an innovative system for
transferring file data that delivers levels of performance never previously experienced in the remote
and mobile working environment, facilitating operation over even the slowest VPN and WAN connections.
